GAMECHANGER AUDIO MOTOR SYNTH MKII
The MOTOR Synth is an electromechanical analog synthesizer. It uses electric motors as the main sound source instead of conventional oscillators. The MOTOR Synth produces its main sound in two ways. It spins eight electric motors at precise speeds corresponding to specific musical notes. A magnetic sensor is placed next to each motor. The rotating coils produce a raw, exciting, and very industrial analog sound. Imagine eight harmonious motors generating an intimidating noise! Special reflective discs are attached to the shafts of each motor. Each disc contains a graphical representation of three standard audio waveforms. As the motors spin, the discs rotate. Each waveform is read by an infrared sensor and then converted into an audio signal.
UNIQUE MOTORIZED OSCILLATOR ENGINE
The MOTOR Synth is based on a unique motorized oscillator engine a system of electric motors capable of instantly and precisely changing their rotational speed to produce musical notes. These motor oscillators can generate four distinct waveforms sine, sawtooth, square, and the so-called M waveform. The M waveform is produced by a set of electromagnetic sensors placed next to the internal rotating coils of each motor. As the coils spin, they create electromagnetic fluctuations that can be amplified to produce a unique waveform. The sine, sawtooth, and square waveforms are produced by a set of specially designed optical discs mounted on each motors shaft. Each motor disc features three "tracks" engraved on its reflective surface. These "tracks" are designed as circular optical representations of the sine, sawtooth, and square waveforms. Each reflective "track" is paired with a distinct infrared laser and a sensor that detects the reflected beam. As the disc spins and brings the shaded areas into circular motion, the infrared reflectivity sensor begins to emit an "optical waveform" a proprietary technology developed specifically for the MOTOR Synth.
TWO INDEPENDENT MOTOR VOICES
The MOTOR Synth offers two distinct MOTOR voices, each with 4 electric motor oscillators both voices can operate in mono, unison, or four-note polyphonic mode. Both MOTOR voices feature separate control sets to adjust VOLUME, SCALE, WAVESHAPE, individual motor AMP ENVELOPES for each musical note, as well as highly detailed control over a deep and versatile PORTAMENTO / PITCH MOD section (called "Acceleration / Brake").
INDEPENDENT ANALOG MULTIMODE FILTERS
Each motor voice is equipped with a separate analog multimode filter section featuring adjustable DRIVE, CUTOFF, RESONANCE, ENVELOPE SHAPE & AMOUNT, and FILTER TYPE. There are four types of analog filters 24 dB LP, 12 dB BP, 12 dB HP, 12 dB AP (All-Pass). The new analog filter circuits offer greater headroom, improved envelope response speed, and a highly precise analog Keytrack mode with adjustable depth, direction, and filter "glide".
DIGITAL VOICE (DCO)
The MOTOR Synth MK II includes a third additional voice a high-quality digital engine that can be used independently or to enhance the raw sound of the MOTOR Voices. The digital engine (DCO) can produce various classic waveforms (with wave shaping) or serve as a noise generator. The DCO also features a separate fully controllable AMP ENVELOPE, a PORTAMENTO section, and its own digital multimode filter designed to emulate the 4 analog filter modes.
CONFIGURABLE STEREO OUTPUT
The MOTOR Synth has a single output jack that can be configured as mono or stereo, allowing the two motor voices to be routed to separate channels. The digital voice can also be routed to V1 or V2 outputs, or both.
MODULATION SECTION WITH THREE ASSIGNABLE LFOS:
The MOTOR Synth MKII also features an extremely powerful modulation section including 3 individual LFOs with adjustable positive and negative depth controls. Each LFO can be easily assigned to almost any knob or encoder value on two independent modulation slots A and B. Five independent modulation waveforms are available for each LFO each with a detailed waveform shaping engine.
