also tested as a replacement for plasticover reeds (strength 2.5 and 3), to use on a vandoren M30 mouthpiece and a yamaha clarinet (250 and 450). the venn strength 2 seems closest to the platicover 2.5. I am quite satisfied, already the light color allows better placement on the mouthpiece. big advantage for me, who plays occasionally: the reed "holds" well over time, and we avoid the series of wetting-drying harmful to lifespan (even if kept in a case). it is also more robust to small nicks. however, common point with all synthetic reeds I have tested: less nuances, especially in pianissimo. and finally, the very "smooth" touch of the material may confuse some. after saying all this I think it remains a very acceptable compromise, for working at home, jazz, ... but for classical or if a lot of finesse is needed, I think a traditional reed is still necessary. I recommend having 2 with close strengths, to adapt to all playing situations.
