Description

Reed - D'Addario

A superior synthetic reed made from polymer fibers, resin and Provence cane particles. Designed to give players the benefits of synthetic reeds, while preserving the sound and playability of natural reeds.

D'Addario VENN: a unique line

Developed by some of the best engineers in the business, the VENN line marks the dawn of a whole new era of woodwind innovation, combining the stability and longevity of a synthetic reed with the sound quality and playability of the cane de Provence. To mimic the natural structure of the cane, we analyzed it down to the smallest detail and then reproduced it by layering several layers of polymer fibers of different strengths with resin and natural cane elements to create the outline of this reed.

A unique layering of polymer fibers gives VENN reeds their natural flexibility, for a response and articulation similar to that of cane reeds.
The addition of the resin makes VENN reeds resistant to weather and weather changes that quickly deteriorate natural cane reeds.
Thanks to the Provence cane particles, VENN reeds benefit from a richer, warmer sound similar to that of natural reeds.

Use
also tested as a replacement for plasticover reeds (strength 2.5 and 3), to use on a vandoren M30 mouthpiece and a yamaha clarinet (250 and 450). the venn strength 2 seems closest to the platicover 2.5. I am quite satisfied, already the light color allows better placement on the mouthpiece. big advantage for me, who plays occasionally: the reed "holds" well over time, and we avoid the series of wetting-drying harmful to lifespan (even if kept in a case). it is also more robust to small nicks. however, common point with all synthetic reeds I have tested: less nuances, especially in pianissimo. and finally, the very "smooth" touch of the material may confuse some. after saying all this I think it remains a very acceptable compromise, for working at home, jazz, ... but for classical or if a lot of finesse is needed, I think a traditional reed is still necessary. I recommend having 2 with close strengths, to adapt to all playing situations.... (Show more)
