Description

ISP Technologies Hum Extractor + Decimator G Effects Pedal

ISP Technologies presents the revolutionary HUM EXTRACTOR™ + DECIMATOR G, the ultimate dual-channel noise reduction system, patent pending. After years of musicians struggling with the major problem of electrical line hum, ISP Technologies eliminates this dreaded noise with the new patent-pending HUM EXTRACTOR™. The electrical line frequency hum is most often caused by stray magnetic fields generated by transformers or power lines near the instrument's microphones. Although Hum Bucking pickups have been used for years to help reduce this problem, if the hum level is significant, even Hum Bucking pickups are not enough, and many players still prefer the sound quality and tone of single-coil pickups.
Line frequency hum has a heavy harmonic content above the line frequency, occurring at every interval of the line frequency. Decimator technology has eliminated this phenomenon for high-gain applications by attenuating the output signal when the guitar notes decay, but even the Decimator cannot remove hum components that occur at clean or low gain settings, as there is no noise masking at these settings. As soon as there is a guitar signal, the Decimator reaches unity gain, and at lower gain settings, the hum becomes audible. As all musicians know, the severity of hum varies from place to place, but it can ruin an otherwise excellent performance when severe. There is no other option that can offer the transparency needed to eliminate hum while preserving the tone and sound quality of the original signal. The HUM EXTRACTOR does the impossible and eliminates hum without altering the instrument's sound.
The HUM EXTRACTOR position can be selected to operate on channel 1 or channel 2, depending on user preferences and device configuration. The HUM EXTRACTOR + DECIMATOR G is a high-performance dual-channel DSP processor with three noise reduction operations in a single unit. The HUM EXTRACTOR, usually on channel 1, is inserted between the guitar output and the guitar rig input. Channel 2 is then inserted after the gain or preamplifier of the hardware and provides Decimator noise reduction with the brand-new patent-pending Decimator X technology for ultimate adaptive release. The Decimator level detection is derived from the direct guitar input signal after removing hum components, allowing perfect tracking of Decimator functions without the hum components. This enables greater accuracy for the Decimator to suppress gain noise and gain hiss.
The DSP-based Decimator also includes a third noise reduction function, high-frequency sliding filtering, found in our high-performance ProRack G rack processors. The sliding filter follows the high-frequency content of the input signal and operates adaptively to eliminate high-frequency noise from the output signal. The HUM EXTRACTOR + DECIMATOR operates dynamically with separate threshold level settings for HUM EXTRACTOR and DECIMATOR noise reduction. Once the Decimator threshold is set, the user selects the FILTER TRACKING knob to adjust the relative operating point of the dynamic filter via the Decimator threshold control. Once set, the Decimator threshold will then adjust both the Decimator downward expander threshold and the dynamic high-frequency sliding filter. The dynamic sliding filter will open to allow the high-frequency content of the input signal but will adaptively track this HF content and effectively eliminate high-frequency HISS, even when playing low bass notes. The combined operation of the HUM EXTRACTOR, Decimator Downward Expansion, and Decimator Adaptive Sliding Filtering offers a noise reduction level never before achieved. High-quality A/D and D/A converters, along with 32-bit floating-point DSP processing, provide cutting-edge signal quality.
