For over half a century, Latin Percussion has been manufacturing classic percussion instruments and offering hundreds of patented improvements as well as new musical instrument concepts that meet the rigorous standards of professional musicians. In 1956, Martin Cohen, a young mechanical engineer from the Bronx, passed by the famous Birdland jazz club in New York. He went in and was immediately captivated by the sound and energy of Latin Jazz. Martin was so moved by this music that he wanted to have his own bongos. Unfortunately, due to trade embargoes, high-quality Cuban bongos were unavailable in the United States. So Martin decided to use his engineering skills to make them himself. In 1964, Martin Cohen founded Latin Percussion and offered musicians his bongos, bells, and other instruments, delivered in brown paper bags. Martin used this close connection he had with Latin music artists. This greatly contributed to the brand's success. Even today, this connection is part of the brand's philosophy: the needs of professional musicians are a priority. Latin Percussion instruments are considered the best percussion instruments in the world.
