Made up of a small barrel closed on one side by a skin to which is fixed in the inner part a bamboo rod which is rubbed with a damp sponge, obtaining a deep sound, sometimes hoarse and sometimes shrill imitating the cry of the monkey .
The cuica has become a characteristic instrument of samba schools and carnival groups.
