Coreless direct drive motor ensuring stable rotation
The direct drive system uses a slow rotation motor to drive the platter directly. This system offers several advantages. It delivers high performance, such as rotational accuracy and strong torque, requires no parts replacement, and maintains high reliability over a long period. On the other hand, direct drive systems are known to produce rotational irregularity called cogging. For the SL-1200MK7, a new coreless direct drive motor has been developed. This motor uses a coreless stator. Removing the core (iron core) from the stator eliminated the primary cause of cogging. Additionally, the magnetic force of the rotor magnets has been enhanced to the highest possible level, and the gap between the coreless stator and rotor magnets has been optimized, achieving high torque performance equivalent to the SL-1200MK5. Featuring smooth rotation and powerful torque, this motor accurately and faithfully reproduces sound from the groove of an analog record.
Various new functions to adapt to different playing styles
Torque and brake speed adjustment
The latest digital motor control technology, accumulated through Blu-ray disc product development, is applied to improve adjustment by allowing individual setting of torque and brake speed in four steps.
Pitch control function
The pitch control function enables fine adjustment of the rotation speed within a range of ±8% / ±16%. It operates via digital control, from slider position detection to motor rotation control, eliminating unnecessary DA conversion. This significantly improves tracking performance for precise and stable pitch adjustment.
Reverse play function
The reverse play function, offering new creative performance possibilities, makes its first appearance in the SL-1200 series. In addition to 33-1/3 rpm and 45 rpm, a rotation speed of 78 rpm is supported.
High-sensitivity tonearm
The tonearm, which has supported the forefront of the DJ scene for many years, inherits the highly reliable universal S-shaped static balance tonearm. Thanks to high-precision bearings, it achieves higher initial movement sensitivity than the SL-1200MK6. This allows precise tracking of the phonograph record groove and ensures excellent tracking performance with minimal stylus skipping, even under challenging playback conditions such as scratches.
Stylus illuminator with high-brightness, long-life white LED
The stylus illuminator features a new push-button structure for intuitive use and uses a high-brightness, long-life white LED. The illumination area and intensity have been redesigned to improve visibility of the stylus tip, even in dark environments.
Power and phono cable terminals
The power and phono cable terminals allow cable detachment. The phono terminals are gold-plated to minimize sound quality degradation. Since the terminals allow cable detachment, cable maintenance is easier.
High-rigidity chassis and high-damping isolator
The chassis, essential for reducing external vibrations, inherits audio quality enhancement technology developed through high-end turntable development. The die-cast aluminum chassis is rigidly integrated with a special material composed of ABS mixed with glass fiber to achieve a two-layer construction. The combination of this high-rigidity special material and the metal chassis has elevated rigidity and vibration damping performance to superior levels, creating a robust enclosure for high-quality sound reproduction. The isolator consists of a spring and rubber to provide optimal frequency characteristics. This ensures not only high sound quality and excellent feedback resistance but also effectively suppresses external vibrations under high sound pressure conditions.
