Crazy Tube Circuits Unobtanium Raw
The principle remains the same as for the standard version of the pedal: on the right, a faithful replica of the K-style overdrive in every detail, and on the left, two D-style amp voicings, the most desirable and “unobtainable” tube amps in the world.
For this RAW edition, we added two magical ingredients to the clipping stage on the K side: New Old Stock Mullard / Valvo OC45 germanium transistors from the 1960s. We tested many types of germanium transistors and concluded that the OC45s provide that supernatural feeling, that organic compression which enhances gain and sustain. Fear not: the standard sounds are still there with the stock position allowing you to hear the germanium diode clipping, just like on the original.
The amp-in-a-box side of the RAW version is clearer and more dynamic than the standard version. You will find blues rock and classic rock vocal sounds that fit well in the mix and work with all kinds of guitar and pickup combinations. It is the equivalent of the rock/jazz selector on these amps set to rock.
As with the standard version, the Unobtanium Raw features a passive effects loop that lets you connect your favorite pedals between the booster/overdrive and the amp-in-a-box, or use both sections as separate and independent effects if you use an external switcher or looper. All pedals inserted into the passive effects loop remain active when both sections are bypassed.
The Unobtanium Raw also has a footswitch pre-setting function at power-up, either bypassed or activated. This allows you to choose the state of your pedal when you plug in the power supply. This is especially useful for those who use switcher controllers and loopers since they control the pedal remotely and don’t have to worry about its status.
