Gary Chaffee's method is NOT a traditional method. It is quite advanced music theory. Personally, I use it as a complement to my lessons, with a teacher who is a follower of the Chaffee method, and it is perfect in this context. I do not recommend this method for those who are self-taught drummers, unless your seriousness and discipline are really top level: it is raw, it is tough. In short, it's Chaffee, you know.
