Reason 13 is an audio/MIDI sequencer (DAW) designed to produce music smoothly, from the first chord to mastering. It is suitable for composition (MIDI, virtual instruments, harmonic writing), recording (audio takes, vocals, guitars), and mixing (buses, groups, dynamic processing, spatialization). Thanks to its virtual studio rack and factory library, it caters equally to beatmakers, electro/hip-hop producers, film composers, and musicians seeking an all-in-one solution for sketching and finalizing projects.
The sequencer offers a split view between the editing area and arrangement, convenient for switching from detailed work (notes, automation, event placement) to a global view of the structure. You benefit from an unlimited number of audio and instrument tracks to stack takes, synth layers, doubles, and effects without project constraints.
Reason 13 includes a fully equipped mixing console with parallel tracks and group channels, ideal for organizing stems (drums, bass, synths, vocals) and implementing modern processing such as parallel compression, reverb/delay buses, or dedicated saturation chains. The result: a cleaner mix, faster to balance, and easier to automate.
The Reason Rack functions as a virtual studio rack: instruments, effects, and utilities are accessible with a clear chain logic, ready for sound design. Besides being usable within Reason, it can be integrated as a plug-in in compatible DAWs (formats VST3/AU/AAX Native), allowing you to add the rack's color and flexibility to your usual environment without changing your workflow.
For vocal production, Pitch Edit offers detailed editing: control of pitch, vibrato, and pitch drift for natural corrections or deliberate effects. Additionally, Audio-to-MIDI converts a monophonic signal into MIDI notes: useful for doubling a vocal or bass line with a synth, or for turning a quickly recorded idea into an arranged instrumental.
Reason 13 includes slicing and audio quantization tools to tighten grooves, realign transients, or build rhythmic variations. The Audio to REX-File function also facilitates the creation of structured loops, useful for remixing, live performance, or sampling-oriented approaches.
Playback modules provide direct musical tools: scales/chords, note echo, and dual arpeggiator to generate patterns, densify progressions, or quickly find harmonic ideas. Reason 13 also supports external MIDI device control (including MIDI clock) and Ableton Link synchronization via WiFi to align tempo and transport between compatible applications.
The software brings together a complete arsenal: 32 effects (including Ripley Space Delay, Sidechain Tool, Stereo Tool, Masterbus compressor, Softube amplifier and cabinet models, reverb, delay, distortion, phaser, chorus, etc.), 19 instruments (Polytone Dual-Layer, Mimic Creative Sampler, Europa, Grain, Klang, Pangea, etc.), plus 4 MIDI effects and 9 utilities. The 11 GB factory library offers more than 29,000 patches, loops, and samples to start a project immediately, regardless of style.
The interface is high resolution, freely scalable, and features a zoom function for ReasonRack and Extensions to enhance readability on all screen types. Multiple interface themes are available to adapt the environment to your working preferences.
