Dorico Elements is a music notation software designed for composers, arrangers, teachers, and musicians who want to produce clean and readable scores quickly, while retaining tools advanced enough for genuine music production. It is suitable for writing a lead sheet, arranging for a small ensemble, or preparing individual parts ready to print for rehearsal or concert.
Beyond editing, Dorico Elements stands out with high-quality playback: you can check harmony, phrasing, and balance of sections without leaving your project. Thanks to MIDI and MusicXML exchanges, it naturally integrates into a DAW environment, whether to import a demo from a DAW or to export your writing to other tools.
In Dorico Elements, you can compose and arrange ensembles managing any number of movements and pieces within a single project. This approach promotes coherent organization of your works, useful for suites, stage music, collections, or any project requiring multiple sections.
The software offers automatic music notation and part layout designed to save time: the goal is to achieve a readable result without multiplying manual adjustments. Dorico Elements also includes integrated drum notation, handy for writing patterns, kit orchestrations, and percussion parts with an adapted presentation.
For guitarists and arrangers, Dorico Elements integrates a linked guitar tablature with the notation, supporting any number of strings and management of specific tunings. The dedicated notation allows writing expressive techniques such as bends, slides, hammer-ons, and pull-offs, producing parts immediately playable by the performer.
The Live Stage view lets you place instruments on a virtual stage; Dorico Elements automatically adjusts panning and sound parameters for a more natural listening experience. Playback benefits from an intelligent interpretation of notation, aiming for a livelier rendering of articulations, dynamics, and playing techniques.
To control and analyze your work, the Scrub function allows selective listening of the score forwards and backwards at your chosen speed: a particularly effective tool to check harmonies, spot clashes, validate chord progressions, or hunt for notation errors.
Dorico Elements includes a parallel and synchronized key editor in write mode to speed up input and adjustment of MIDI data. Extended MIDI import facilitates transfer from a DAW, while polyphonic MIDI transcription with automatic voice assignment helps convert a performance or programming into usable notation.
To rework your ideas without breaking flow, the variable insert mode offers several options to extend an existing composition. You also have melodic and rhythmic transformations (ties, dynamics, playing techniques, etc.) to develop a motif, vary a phrase, or refine expression without starting from scratch.
Note input adapts to your style: virtual keyboard, keys, and drum pads are available to quickly enter pitches, chords, and rhythms. MIDI trigger regions add a practical dimension: they allow playing notes or chords over a selectable time range, not present in the score, to trigger instruments based on accompaniment patterns.
Dorico Elements includes 1500 sounds and 32 effect processors to produce convincing musical playback right after installation. The software also integrates Groove Agent SE with a special version of The Kit, a detailed acoustic drum kit, as well as over 400 MIDI patterns to quickly enrich your rhythmic demos. Finally, VST3 compatibility allows adding your favorite virtual instruments and effects directly into your working environment.
