The handpan is an instrument absolutely accessible to beginners, where percussion and melody come together. Playing the handpan creates soothing, spherical, and persistent soundscapes that completely captivate both the player and the listener. No prior experience or knowledge of music theory is necessary, as with the handpan, all sound fields are located on a fixed scale. On most models, it is not possible to play "wrong" notes. Therefore, when playing, you can fully follow your own intuition and lose yourself in mysterious and dreamy melodies in very little time. The handpan is an instrument absolutely accessible to beginners, where percussion and melody come together. The Sela Harmony Phoenix Steel handpans are handmade and consist of a very stable special stainless steel. Their sustain lies between that of nitrided steel handpans (Melody and Harmony series) and stainless steel models (Harmony Stainless Steel and Majesty). This particularly balanced sustain and warm, controlled sound make the Phoenix Steel handpans truly versatile instruments, which can be played both slowly and meditatively as well as quickly and percussively. They thus offer the best of both worlds and are relatively easy to maintain, as the steel alloy is well protected against external influences such as hand sweat and dirt. During manufacturing, the Phoenix Steel models are given a beautiful bronze color finish.
Unlike other Sela handpans, the new Harmony Phoenix Steel handpans feature ten sound fields instead of the usual nine. This offers even more possibilities to play a wide variety of melodies. The D Amara tuning (fundamental frequency 440 Hz) is one of the most popular scales. The central note in the middle of the handpan is D3, around which the notes A3, C4, D4, E4, F4, G4, A4, C5, and D5 are arranged in a circle. Practical: An overview of the scale with the different sound fields is laser-engraved on the underside of the handpan. Thanks to its clear-sounding D minor scale, this handpan is suitable for spiritual activities such as yoga, meditation, and sound baths, as well as for playing with other handpans or other instruments such as tongue drums, guitar, or percussion.
Each Sela handpan comes with a ripstop nylon fabric bag, which offers optimal protection during transport thanks to its good padding. It can be carried by hand using the two handles or comfortably as a backpack thanks to adjustable shoulder straps. A practical outer compartment provides enough space for small accessories such as a metronome.
