A breathtaking invention.
Discovering the difference between Sabian AAX cymbals and the brand new FRX is a bit like going from a hearty cassoulet to a plate of nouvelle cuisine, or even molecular gastronomy. The comparison is not exaggerated as the designers have found (no doubt after developing the Quiet Tones, which are more extreme in this regard) another way to use cymbals, or rather to offer a different approach, much lighter, without changing, precisely, the way they are played.
An already very complete series.
The key to the success of a new product is to ensure it does not stand alone. This large hi-hat is fabulous in itself: light, airy, nuanced, and very precise. It can even be played on the quarter note, creating great energy without fear of overpowering the vocalist’s voice. But to truly embrace a new type of playing, it is necessary to homogenize the entire set. That is why the designers developed a 15" hi-hat, three rides of 20, 21, and 22", and crashes of 16, 17, and 19", an 18" china, and a 10" splash to accompany it.
Unrestrained and lightweight.
On this already quite thin hi-hat, at its edge and rising onto the bell, you can see a row of holes of identical diameter. That’s as much metal that does not vibrate with each stick impact! A brilliant idea, combined with other drilling tricks for the rides, which gives the drummer the ability to deliver exactly the same amplitude and weight in every hit, without saturating the music. Excellent for the ears, for some more acoustic music styles, or to rethink new styles to come. Sabian has definitely found a way to further evolve the drum set!
The FRX 14" hi-hat cymbals are made of B20 bronze delivering a clear sound and quick response.
