I expected better. Bought for recording acoustic guitars and small percussion instruments, the sound is very decent but a bit dull for my taste. I would have liked more brightness like the higher-end models but much more from Rode. Otherwise, it does its job, no more no less. It remains a good value for money for the home studio.

Paired microphones at a very affordable price and yet very effective. I use them to record or broadcast; so far, I have tested and approved them on: - choir - brass band - big band - pipe organ

This microphone is used in a church to capture the voice of a small choir and broadcast it through the speakers. The result is perfect. However, care must be taken to be moderate with the gain setting as these microphones are very sensitive. The only drawback is that there is no switch to mute the sound when the choir is not singing.

Very decent microphones for this budget These Rode M5 sdc are the low-cost version of their big brother NT5. The capsule is no longer a true condenser but an electret and is not interchangeable, the electronics, a bit noisier (19 db) while remaining at a very good level, lose sensitivity. But we keep the very good build quality of Rode. Used in ORTF, XY and AB recording on an acoustic guitar, you get a very decent sound: the bass is very clean and well defined, the mids are a bit recessed (small dip around 2kz 3kz) and the treble does not shine too much. This gives something quite neutral that can be easily improved with an EQ. The Lewitt LCT 040 that I was able to test beforehand are more flattering and offer an openness that these Rode M5 do not have. Too bad, I did not keep the LCT 040 one of the two suffered from a big Buzz which strangely was not detected by the after-sales service? According to them, it came from my installation which I had of course taken care to check beforehand (cables, preamp). These two Rode M5 work wonderfully on the other hand and what does not spoil anything, they benefit from a 10-year warranty extension (via Rode site). These two microphones are rather good for their price (149€) and are very suitable for amateur recordings in a home studio setting. If you want better, you will have to double the budget and maybe turn to the Rode NT5 or Oktava MK 012 or even rob a bank to afford a pair of Neumann KM 184.
