The 500VPR is part of the API ecosystem around the 500 series format, which has become a standard for building a custom rack, module by module. With its capacity of ten slots, this chassis is designed to centralize a complete setup in a single rack: from preamps to dynamic processing, including equalization. The 500VPR is powered externally via a three-pin power supply and comes with the API L200PS. This architecture is particularly appreciated in studios because it facilitates a clean installation and aims to provide stable power to the modules, even when the rack is fully loaded.
Designed to accept modules in the standard API format (5.25 inches x 1.5 inches), the 500VPR can accommodate up to ten modules. It thus forms an ideal base for building a complete rack around the brand's classics, notably the API 550A, 550b, 560, 525, and 512c, while remaining compatible with 500 series modules adhering to this mechanical standard.
Both input and output connectors are XLR, a coherent choice for robust balanced wiring. The rack is internally wired as PIN 2 hot, which simplifies integration with other studio equipment (audio interfaces, converters, consoles, patchbays) and minimizes polarity issues during multi-mic recordings.
