C.F. Martin & Co was created by Christian Frederick Martin (1796-1873), German immigrant and son of a luthier, in 1833.
The history of the company is closely linked to acoustic guitars development. Martin has never ceased to innovate, introducing techniques and specifications that have become industry standards, such as the X-bracing system during the 1850s, the 14-fret neck and dreadnoguht guitar.
Since its creation Martin is a family-owned company celebrating heritage and tradition. The manufacturing site in Nazareth has been modernised of course but the legendary Martin guitars is still handmade by highly skilled luthiers.
Well-known artists like Eric Clapton, Joan Baez, Chris Cornell... swear by the legendary Martin guitars which will probably continue to be the benchmark of acoustic guitars.
