My piece is not inspired by Pierre Boulez's music, but rather... by the song "Happy birthday to you," which begins and ends my piece (although the changes in registers compared to the original melody make the model quite barely perceptible). Between these two sequences, the discourse is always fluid, giving pride of place to a "flutistic" virtuosity that can evoke the Sonatine of 1946 or ...Explosante fixe... The discourse never settles, the material being in perpetual motion, either undergoing linear processes (a continuous idea, in the first half of the work, gradually disintegrates), or following a logic of motivic development. Happy B. is an enthusiastic piece, and above all, a celebration of Boulezian energy.
