Born from Roland's "V-Combo" spirit, the VR-09B has a clear goal: to bring together the essentials of a stage keyboard (organ, pianos, synths) in a compact format, quick to set up and easy to operate. Its separated section logic simplifies registration changes during a song, while user memories allow recalling a combination of sounds and effects adapted to each piece in seconds.
The VR-09B features a 61-key keyboard with light touch, velocity-sensitive, particularly comfortable for organ parts, electric piano rhythms, and synth leads. The fast response favors sharp attacks, glissandos, and dynamic accompaniments. For the organ, the nine harmonic drawbars provide direct timbre control, complemented by an LCD screen and dedicated controls (sliders, buttons, switches) to stay focused on playing rather than navigation.
At the heart of the VR-09B, the Virtual Tone Wheel Organ recreates the energy of a tonewheel organ with character parameters (leakage, click, speed) and a response designed to cut through the mix. The rotary speaker simulations offer three types of Rotary and a more aggressive grain mode for "rock" registrations, not forgetting the Twin Rotary. On the piano side, there are vintage electric pianos accompanied by their associated effect colors, as well as a stereo grand piano multi-sampled across 88 notes for credible nuances in live performance. Finally, the SuperNATURAL Synth section provides more than 200 sounds (leads, basses, pads, strings) to cover most styles, from groove to modern pop.
To work efficiently and prepare arrangements, the VR-09B includes a metronome, rhythmic patterns, and a looper useful for building ideas or rehearsing passages. The Split and Layer modes can be set up quickly to share the keyboard or stack multiple textures. Audio recording and playback via USB facilitate reference takes and set preparation, and the dedicated iPad editor helps to fine-tune organ and synth settings visually.
Designed for live use, the VR-09B emphasizes responsiveness: direct access to Organ/Piano/Synth sections, user memories to recall your presets in concert, and front panel controls to modify sound without interrupting play. Editing can be deepened via the iPad editor (wired USB connection or via Roland Wireless Connect). The internal bank can also be expanded with downloadable content, and the USB port simplifies playback, saving, and data organization for smoother set management.
