The Strymon MiniSwitch was created to address a very practical situation: when your pedal is placed at the back of the board, squeezed between other effects, or integrated into a large rig, some functions become less accessible. This small external switch lets you regain immediate foot control without reorganizing your entire pedalboard. Depending on the compatible pedal, it becomes your shortcut to a favorite setting, a reliable Tap Tempo, or an instant boost.
The MiniSwitch is aimed at all guitarists (and bassists depending on configuration) who use Strymon effects in rehearsals, studios, or on stage, and who want more responsiveness live. It is especially relevant if you play styles where tempo is crucial (rock, pop, indie, worship, ambient, post-rock): an accessible Tap Tempo changes everything when you need to quickly realign a delay. It is also ideal if you often switch between a "verse" sound and a "chorus/lead" sound: the Favorite recall or Boost lets you cut through the mix without touching the knobs.
The MiniSwitch operates in two modes, selectable via an internal jumper: Favorite/Boost or Tap Tempo. In Tap Tempo mode, you can tap the tempo remotely to synchronize your delay or modulation repeats when the pedal is out of reach on the board. In Favorite/Boost mode, the MiniSwitch serves as a dedicated control to recall a saved favorite preset (depending on compatible models), and on Riverside it also activates a boost up to +6 dB to stand out in solos. Note: on Lex, it can also switch the rotary speaker speed to toggle between slow and fast movement with your foot.
The MiniSwitch does not alter your tone: it does not process the audio signal nor color your pedal's sound. Its value lies elsewhere: it enhances your real-time control. A more accessible Tap Tempo, immediate Favorite recall, or foot-activated boost means less hesitation, fewer extraneous movements, and cleaner transitions between your rhythm parts and lead passages. In concert situations, this type of accessory can make the difference between a "rough" setting and an effect perfectly locked into the song.
