After the three Piano Sonatas op. 2 dating from the years 1794/1795, Beethoven was probably rapidly planning the composition of a new group of three sonatas. The Great Sonata op. 7 was, because of its vast dimensions, dissociated from this project and published separately. And yet, with the Sonatas in C minor, F major and D major, the next triad was ready in early 1798 and printed and published in Vienna again that same year as an Op. 10. As already the Sonata in C minor op. 10 n ° 1, the one in F major, has only three movements and differs from the model in four movements established by opus 2 and 7 - the result of intensive experimentation with different variants of minuets, which were ultimately all rejected. The Beethoven manuscripts of opus 10 have not been preserved, so this Urtext edition from the Perahia / Gertsch workshop is also essentially based on the original edition, widely commented as always, and completed by the precious fingerings of Murray Perahia.
