Camille Saint-Saëns Piano Concerto No.4 in C minor, Op. 44
Peter Jost (Editor)
Johannes Umbreit (Piano reduction)
Pascal Rogé (Fingering)
Urtext edition, piano reduction, paperback binding
Two partitions are necessary for a performance
Despite its unusual form - an arrangement in two parts, each comprising two movements to be linked without interruption - this work dating from 1875 was received from the start with great success. With its perfect balance between the solo part and the orchestra, this concerto corresponds in a truly ideal way to the model of the "symphonic concert" and is one of the most popular concertos of the French composer. Gabriel Fauré himself made the piano arrangement of the orchestral part of the first edition published in 1877 - an optimal basis for the realization by Johannes Umbreit of this piano reduction of this first Urtext edition of the work. As for the Concertos for piano and orchestra n ° 2 and n ° 5, already published by Henle, it is also here Pascal Rogé, one of the best connoisseurs of the pianistic work of Saint-Saëns, who assumes the responsibility for fingerings.
