Yellow river Piano Concerto - Arrangement for two pianos (including solo part for the concert) Based on Xian Xinghai's "Yellow River" cantata by Yin Chengzong, Sheng Lihong, Chu Wanghua, Liu Zhuang
The piano concerto "Yellow River", influenced by Rachmaninov and Tschaikovski, which Lang Lang has included in his repertoire, is characterized, with his solo part of extreme virtuosity, not only by its expressiveness and dramatic intensity but also by qualities of contemplation, emotion and spirit. Based on the cantata of the same name by the famous Chinese composer Xian Xinghai (1905-1945), the concerto, arranged among others by Yin Chenzong is characterized by an association of Chinese folk music and elements of the Peking Opera, combined with so-called learned European music. The "Yellow River", cradle of Chinese civilization and symbol of the popular soul, can be compared to the "Moldau" of the symphonic poem "Ma Patrie" of Smetana.
