Complete software
Baby Audio Parallel Aggressor is a parallel compression and saturation plugin designed to add more impact to a track without crushing it. The principle is simple: instead of replacing your sound with aggressive processing, the software internally duplicates the audio and allows you to blend a compressed signal, a saturated signal, and your original "Dry" signal. The result: you get more presence, more density, and more "front" in the mix, while maintaining the natural feel and dynamics that make a production breathe.
It is particularly suited for contexts where a "radio-ready" sound is desired: snappy drums, vocals that stay upfront in the mix, clearer bass, beefier synths, more coherent instrument buses. It is also an excellent sound design tool to exaggerate a source's character, then return to musical balance thanks to the precise blend of the three channels.
Parallel Aggressor hosts its processing buses directly in the interface: Spank (compressed duplicate), Heat (saturated duplicate), and Dry (original signal). This architecture allows you to push compression and saturation hard on the duplicates, then gradually reintegrate them into the mix. You thus gain energy and perceived loudness without losing essential articulation and transients.
Spank is designed to deliver impactful parallel compression. You control the effect amount via the main knob, then refine the character with style injection buttons. Finally, a dedicated fader lets you determine exactly how much parallel compression you want to blend into your sound. This is especially effective on snare, drum buses, percussion, rhythm guitars, and vocals that lack stability.
Available style options for Spank include: Extra Punch, Extra Smack, Sidechain Filter, and Mono. These adapt the processing response (attack, impact feel, low-end reaction, center focus) to fit the source and the track's role in the arrangement.
Heat is a modeled saturation algorithm with a warm character and controlled aggressiveness. It adds non-linear harmonics to thicken the timbre, improve presence perception, and help a track cut through the mix. Like Spank, you dose the intensity with the knob, adjust behavior with style buttons, then set the saturated signal amount with the blend fader.
Available style options for Heat include: Extra Hot, Tone, HP Filter, and LP Filter. These allow you to choose a brighter or darker voicing and control how saturation reacts to spectral extremes, useful to avoid muddying the low end or overly harsh highs.
The core of the plugin is the mix of the three signals. The central faders balance Dry, Spank, and Heat with immediate precision. To fine-tune, the Solo buttons under each fader let you listen to each path separately: ideal for dialing in compression amount without unwanted pumping or setting audible but clean saturation.
The Auto Gain mode aims to keep the overall output level close to the input level for objective comparison of settings. The meters on the left and right of the interface help dose Spank and Heat: an effective approach is to adjust the knobs until peaks reach just before the orange zone, then finalize the blend according to the mix context.
Parallel Aggressor includes 25 presets designed by BABY Audio collaborators, offering quick starting points for various uses. The plugin integrates with most common DAWs (Ableton Live, Pro Tools, Logic Pro, FL Studio, Cubase, Nuendo, Reaper, Reason, and others), making it a simple tool to adopt whether you're producing, mixing, or sound designing.
To adapt to your environment, the software offers display options with black, gray, or white backgrounds, convenient for long sessions and different studio lighting conditions.
