Eventide Crystals is a creative pitch shifting, delay, and reverb plugin designed to transform an ordinary source into spectacular sound material. It excels at building pitched delays that seem to climb infinitely, thickening a voice, giving a "majestic" dimension to a guitar, or making synths breathe with reversed trails and reverberated halos. Whether you are in pop/electro production, post-production, or sound design, Crystals serves both to stylize and reinvent a signal.
The core of Crystals is based on two pitch shifters coupled with two reverse granular delays. Each voice is adjustable independently (delay time, feedback, pitch), allowing you to layer intervals, create stereo responses, or build evolving harmonic movements. With very long delay times and plenty of feedback, the effect can take on an ambient loop dimension ideal for cinematic intros, transitions, and floating textures.
Beyond pitched delays, Crystals can also become a massive reverb with a unique character, perfect for achieving unreal tails and very deep spaces. On pads, leads, vocals, or even a snare drum, the reverb can give the impression of enlarging the soundstage without losing the experimental edge that defines the Eventide signature.
The RIBBON control is designed to modulate multiple parameters simultaneously and "play" the effect in real time: evolving pitches, gradually increasing feedback, or smoothly transitioning from subtle to extreme states. The FLEX button adds an instant gesture by shifting both voices up an octave, useful for accentuating a passage, creating a pickup, or launching a solo. Finally, MIXLOCK keeps the mix level constant while browsing presets, a real plus for quickly comparing tones without losing your wet/dry balance.
Crystals also shines in very practical uses: lowering pitches for a "staggering" vocal effect like a quick creative treatment, placing a snare in the mix by pitching it down an octave, or building harmonies with micro-pitch around musical intervals (fourth, fifth, octave). It's a tool that encourages experimentation while remaining immediately usable in a mix context.
