FabFilter One is a virtual synthesizer designed to quickly create expressive and solid sounds in a mix, with a character inspired by classic analog synths. It excels at round basses, punchy leads, precise plucks, transition FX, and simple yet effective textures in pop, electro, house, techno, ambient, or film music. Its deliberately straightforward architecture focuses on the essentials: a flawless oscillator, a musical filter, and useful modulations to evolve the sound without complexity.
At the heart of FabFilter One is a particularly refined self-oscillating low-pass filter, calibrated to deliver generous resonance and a convincing "analog" feel. The goal is clear: achieve a raw but never cold sound, with smoothness that remains controllable when pushing resonance, allowing you to sculpt basses, soften harmonics, or create very musical filter sweeps.
The oscillator was developed to remain completely free of aliasing, a key point if you play in the high register, stack notes, or automate parameters. It offers triangle, sawtooth, and square waveforms, with PWM (pulse width modulation) on the square wave to add movement, thickness, and character, particularly useful on leads and minimalist pads.
FabFilter One includes an LFO with triangle and square waveforms, as well as a balance setting allowing navigation between modulation profiles (between sawtooth and triangle) to adjust groove and dynamics. Host tempo synchronization facilitates wobble basses, filtered tremolos, or rhythmic variations perfectly locked to the project. The EG (envelope generator) follows a traditional ADSR approach, with optimized response and a "Hold" parameter to extend note sustain duration, ideal for sharp attacks with more stable holds.
To integrate into a modern production environment, FabFilter One offers sample-accurate automation of all parameters, value display for precise work, as well as intelligent interpolation that makes parameter movements smoother.
