The Moogerfooger MF-102 Ring Modulator is an effect plugin dedicated to modulation and sound design. It adds movement, depth, and an atypical harmonic signature to synth, guitar, bass, vocal, or percussion tracks. Depending on the settings, it can act as a musical and gentle tremolo, a textured vibrato, or switch to metallic, robotic, and deliberately "dissonant" sounds-perfect for electronic music, post-production, cinematic atmospheres, and experimentation.
The core of the effect relies on the combination of a ring modulator and a carrier oscillator capable of covering a wide frequency range. This architecture allows shaping timbres ranging from subtle signal enrichment to radical transformations. On a bassline, you can achieve a more biting and animated grain; on a pad, moving harmonics; on a voice, a mechanical or "alien" color.
The integrated LFO offers smooth and musical modulation, ideal for creating steady pulses, slow undulations, or more nervous effects. You can thus move from a light tremolo that respects the mix to fast and intense variations, useful for creating tension effects, transitions, or instantly recognizable sonic signatures.
Designed as a meticulous emulation of a historic 1998 model, the plugin aims to recapture the sonic character associated with this legendary effects pedal while integrating into the workflow of a contemporary studio. The result: a treatment inspired by the hardware, but with the flexibility of a plugin (multiple instances, instant recall of settings, automation within the sequencer).
Virtual CV connections open the door to in-depth control: you can create complex interactions between multiple effect instances within the same project. This approach is particularly powerful for sessions rich in automation, modulation-focused tracks, or sound designs seeking constant evolution rather than a static effect.
