Complete software
Waldorf Blofeld Plugin is designed for music production both in the studio and on stage, as a versatile virtual synthesizer. It excels in evolving wavetable textures, cutting leads, dense basses, cinematic pads, and synthetic percussive sounds, with the typical "fat" and rich rendering of the brand. Whether you produce techno, ambient, pop, hip-hop, or film music, it allows you to build expressive, modulated timbres perfectly synchronized to your DAW's tempo.
The core of the Blofeld Plugin is based on 3 oscillators per voice, capable of combining wavetables, VA (Virtual Analog), and sample playback. You get all Microwave II/XT/XTk wavetables, as well as frequency modulation (FM) between oscillators to enrich harmonics, add bite, or create metallic and complex timbres. To go further, the plugin offers 38 slots for loading user wavetables from .midi or .wav files.
Each voice features 2 independent multimode filters for serial or parallel architectures depending on your routing choices. The presence of Filter FM opens the door to more organic and aggressive variations, while the Filter Drive with selectable drive curves allows you to go from subtle warmth to more pronounced distortion without losing mix clarity.
The Blofeld Plugin is a sound design tool, notably thanks to its 4 envelopes with multiple modes and the ability to modulate all timings and levels. The 3 LFOs offer adjustable shapes, phase, and speed, as well as delay and fade parameters to breathe life into movements. LFOs can operate per voice or in global synchronized mode, and can be clocked to the DAW tempo. To centralize all this, you have a 16-slot modulation matrix capable of modulating almost any parameter from numerous sources, plus 4 Modifiers to compose even more complex modulations.
In production, the 16-part multi-timbral mode facilitates creating combinations: massive layers, keyboard splits, and dynamic variations. Splits can be defined by note zones and velocity ranges. A multi-instrument mixer is included, featuring volume, pan, detune, transpose, and other parameters to quickly organize a complete "rack" of sounds within a single instrument.
For rhythmic playing and sequences, the arpeggiator is freely programmable with up to 16 steps per sound. Each step can adjust timing, accent, and velocity, making it suitable for both mechanical patterns and more lively grooves. On the processing side, each sound benefits from 2 effect slots among: Chorus, Flanger, Phaser, Overdrive, Triple FX, Delay, and Reverb.
The plugin includes all factory presets from the 2008 and 2012 banks, plus 20 original sounds by synth_nyc. It can import presets and banks in .mid and .syx formats. The preset browser offers search, sorting, and maintenance functions, with a custom preset format supporting tags, sound groups, author, and comments. You also benefit from an internal database, import/export of sounds and collections, and user presets can contain sample data.
The Blofeld Plugin can serve as a control center for the Blofeld hardware: editing all parameters from the plugin, direct import of presets from hardware, and sending .midi (presets), wavetable, or samples files to the hardware. It covers the full Spectre-type functionality. For samples, each oscillator can play multi-samples, with sample management and editing options. The plugin can import hardware sample content from .wpc files or user samples from .xml files created with the Spectre software, then send sample sets to the Blofeld hardware.
The graphical interface is resizable, and mapping is simplified via MIDI Learn with free assignment of MIDI CC. In version 1.1.0, the plugin adds sending the selected preset to hardware (currently written in the edit buffer, without a bank slot). For Multi, it sends Multi settings and the 16 parts to the edit buffer. It also adds import of Multi presets from hardware (Import All Singles or Multis), loading the current sound with Multi support, and acceptance of Dump Multi and Dump Arrangement operations from hardware.
