Waves 360deg Surround Tools is a suite of plugins designed for 5.1 surround mixing and finishing in post-production. It addresses essential tasks for cinema, TV, series, documentary, or "classic" immersive content mixing: precise multi-channel dynamics control, LFE channel optimization, creation of space and ambiance, surround scene management, upmixing from stereo sources, and level security via limiters and metering tools. The goal is to save time while maintaining a stable spatial image and consistent rendering from editing to mixdown.
To tame the typical level variations of 5.1, the pack brings together multi-channel processing tools: C360 Surround Compressor for surround compression and L360 Surround Limiter for limiting. This duo facilitates a more homogeneous mix, whether working on a main 5.1 bus, stems (FX, music, dialogue), or subgroups intended for the final mix.
The LFE channel requires a specific approach: LFE360 Low-Pass Filter provides a steep 60 dB/octave low-pass filter to cleanly isolate content destined for the subwoofer. To enhance impact without muddying the low end, LoAir acts as a dedicated bass processor, useful for adding depth to impacts, ambiances, music, and effects.
Depth and spatial coherence are at the heart of a 5.1 mix. R360 Surround Reverb allows adding ambiance and space in multichannel. To shape width and diffusion, S360 Surround Imager and Panner facilitates placement, balance, and spread of the surround image, preserving a clear scene while maximizing envelopment.
To centralize routing and secure output, M360 Surround Manager and Mixdown handles surround management and mixdown operations. When sources are stereo, UM225 / UM226 enable stereo upmix to 5.0/5.1, convenient for quickly converting music, ambiances, or archives to multichannel format.
Metering is a cornerstone of post-production mixing: the pack includes Dorrough Stereo and Dorrough Surround for stereo and surround metering. For end-of-chain processing, IDR360 Bit Re-Quantizer handles shaping, dithering, and re-quantization to optimize resolution conversion during exports.
MV360 combines compression of low and high levels with linkable controls, helping to stabilize perception without crushing useful dynamics. Ideal for bringing ambiances closer, making details more audible, or keeping a program more "present" in a multichannel mix.
