Waves Berzerk Distortion is a distortion plugin focused on creativity, designed to transform a "normal" source into expressive sound material: drums, drum loops, synth lines, basses, guitars, vocals, or effects. Where traditional distortion is limited to "more or less grit," Berzerk becomes a true playground for sound design, electronic music, modern pop/rock production, and post-production by adding movement, controlled aggression, and radical colors while remaining musical.
Berzerk offers 10 distortion curves designed to range from rich and abrasive saturations to more unpredictable textures. The " Go Berzerk " function randomizes the distortion shape to quickly trigger new ideas, ideal when looking for an inspiring starting point or a unique sonic signature.
The plugin includes a resonant feedback network capable of creating "playable" tones and resonances, producing effects from organic rumble to self-oscillating rises. The Feedback oscillation section adds pitch and speed controls, as well as INT/EXT sidechain options to make the distortion react to the groove or an external source.
With its dynamics module, Berzerk doesn't just saturate: it animates the distortion. You can make a sound breathe, control sustain, accentuate transients, or create rhythmic effects (pumping, gating, ducking) that naturally fit the tempo and energy of the track.
The M/S distortion mode allows distorting only the mids (center) or only the sides (width), leaving the rest cleaner. Result: a more "pro" saturation that preserves mix intelligibility while adding character where it's most useful.
To master distortion in a production context, Berzerk includes 3 fully parametric EQ stages to shape the spectrum before and after saturation. The Temperature control adjusts the overall color and warmth of the signal, shifting from a sharp rendering to a denser, rounder distortion.
The plugin can produce extreme frequency effects thanks to an oscillator that follows the level, generating textures that evolve with your signal's dynamics. Depending on the desired style, you can enable oversampling for a cleaner sound or keep a rawer, "dirtier" tone.
Berzerk includes over 100 presets crafted by award-winning producers and engineers, useful both for radical transformation and subtle aggression. An excellent way to quickly find a striking effect and then refine it with advanced parameters.
