Waves CLA Epic is a reverb and delay plugin designed to quickly add space, dimension, and depth to your tracks and buses. It excels on lead vocals (presence and width), snare drums (impact and ambiance), guitars (thickness and relief), as well as synths (textures and movement). Its key principle is that of pro mixes: layering multiple delays and reverbs and making them interact to achieve rich ambiances without losing signal clarity.
CLA Epic combines 4 delays and 4 reverbs in a single interface. Each module is adjusted via a fader to build custom depth, from a simple touch of air to a wide, cinematic environment. You can also add texture and width thanks to the modulation control available on each effect.
The core of the "epic" sound often comes from a subtle chain: a delay that prepares the attack, then a reverb that extends and envelops. With CLA Epic, you can send any delay to one or multiple reverbs instantly, and choose serial, parallel, or hybrid serial-parallel routings to adjust depth without muddying the mix.
TAPE delivers a rich and thick delay, with two taps (Tap 1 and Tap 2) and independent settings for time, sync, feedback, and offset. SLAP targets impact and presence, with 3 EQ slopes inspired by tape speeds (7.5, 15, 30 ips). CROWD behaves like early reflections that grow in size and width over the decay, ideal for thickening the attack before entering the reverb. THROW is designed for targeted effects: its taps can be triggered manually or via automation to emphasize a word, note, or transition.
PLATE is oriented toward lead vocals, with controls for pre-delay, reverb duration, and bass and treble damping (RT). HALL offers a wider color, with similar controls but a different EQ curve. ROOM recreates a "studio bus" style approach: multiple reverbs sent together for a dense and believable room, with pre-delay, time, and damping. Finally, SPACE offers a nonlinear reverb with decay from 0.04 to 3.5 ms; pushed to the max, it transforms into a spectacular gated reverb.
For speed, CLA Epic includes 50 presets signed by Chris Lord-Alge and over 300 additional presets by Greg Wells, Michael Brauer, and other professionals. Effects can be synced to your DAW's BPM for perfectly timed delays and rhythmic ambiances, useful in pop, rock, electro, and modern productions.
