Waves Greg Wells MixCentric is a mix finalizing plugin designed to give the feel of a polished mix in seconds, as if processed through a real master bus chain. It is aimed at producers, beatmakers, mixers, and home studio engineers who want to improve the overall perception of a track without stacking multiple plugins or spending time tweaking numerous settings. On a full mix, it provides better cohesion and a more "radio ready" presence; on a bus (drums, instruments, guitars, vocals), it helps to thicken and unify the group within the context of the track.
MixCentric combines equalization, compression, and subtle harmonic distortion into a single control. Turning the knob does more than just increase a simple "amount": various internal settings are progressively engaged, resulting in a controlled and musical rise in intensity. The outcome aims for a more flattering balance, with a sense of glue, solidity, and polish.
The internal chain typically provides a slight boost in the upper mids for clarity and presence, reinforcement of the lows for foundation, and compression that tightens the mix. The harmonic saturation, carefully dosed to remain discreet, adds density and a "sheen" sensation without tipping into harshness. This tool is designed to bring out the best in a mix quickly while maintaining a musical approach.
MixCentric naturally pairs with your favorite limiter: placed before a limiter on the master, it enables a simple and effective mastering chain, especially for demos, quick productions, or to preview the final sound. It can also be used earlier in the mix, on buses, to shape the sound and dynamics of a group before the final master processing.
