Waves IR-Live is a convolution reverb plugin designed to bring the same acoustic credibility to live mixing as expected in the studio. It allows you to place a vocal, snare drum, overheads, piano, or guitar in a coherent space by reproducing the real behavior of a room through impulse responses. Both front of house and monitors, IR-Live helps create controlled depth, add size to a production, or homogenize multiple sources within the same virtual "room," while maintaining immediate control suited to the demands of the stage.
Thanks to its "concert-ready" approach, it targets sound engineers who want a realistic reverb that is quick to adjust, whether for tours, festivals, houses of worship, musical theater, or corporate events requiring impeccable intelligibility.
Convolution reverb stands out for its ability to reproduce believable environments with natural reflections and density. IR-Live embraces this philosophy adapted for live use: low latency, essential controls immediately accessible, and a display designed to focus on the essentials when every second counts during soundchecks or live shows.
The plugin includes a 4.8 GB library of carefully recorded impulses, offering over 2,000 acoustic spaces. You can choose a short, controlled ambiance for vocals, a punchy room for drums, a brighter plate for solo instruments, or a large hall for more cinematic moments. This variety also allows quick adaptation of the mix's color to the actual venue, the band's style, and the arrangement's density.
IR-Live offers an extended pre-delay to keep the attack clear (especially useful on vocals and snare), as well as damping control via shelving EQ to manage the brightness and warmth of the reverb tail. To adjust the perceived length without changing presets, the plugin allows you to multiply the reverb time over a wide range, handy for shortening a large hall in fast-paced contexts or stretching an ambiance for a ballad.
Beyond the internal library, IR-Live accepts import of impulses in WAV format (and other custom impulse responses), facilitating the standardization of a tour sound or the use of IRs specific to a venue. On the operational side, the plugin is compatible with MultiRack Native and commonly used digital consoles in live production. It can also be used with SoundGrid DSP servers to fit into a system focused on performance and stability.
Although optimized for the stage, IR-Live remains an effective convolution reverb for production: quick space selection, realistic rendering on acoustic sources, and time-saving for building coherent ambiances during mixing. It is an interesting solution if you want to maintain sonic continuity between rehearsals, live recordings, and studio mixes.
