Waves JJP Strings & Keys is used to give a more lively, physical, and forward sensation to harmonic instruments that are often difficult to place: sampled string ensembles, pad layers, textured synths, harps, electric keyboards, or piano. Where these sources can sound thin, flat, or too "in the box," this multi-effects allows you to strengthen the body, improve definition, and create credible depth, while preserving the musical character of the instrument.
It is aimed both at producers who want immediate results and mixers seeking a coherent and fast chain to bring out the attack of a bow, the precision of pizzicato, the brightness of a keyboard, or the density of a pad without falling into an intrusive effect.
The plug-in combines essential mix-oriented building blocks: compression, low EQ, and high EQ. The goal is to solidify dynamics and shape the tonal curve so that strings and keyboards naturally settle into the arrangement. This is particularly effective for warming up sampled sounds that are too thin and adding body without multiplying instances and routings.
The Presence layer is designed to improve clarity: it helps reveal the grain, attack, and micro-details that make the difference between a decent track and an instrument that seems to "play" within the song. On string ensembles, it can enhance the impression of sections; on pads and synths, it can clarify texture to avoid a muddy effect when the production thickens.
JJP Strings & Keys allows you to stack up to 4 effects in parallel to combine, dose, and balance different intentions (body, brightness, presence, space) without losing control. This architecture promotes a fast workflow: rather than building a complex chain, you adjust the layers and find the balance point between natural and impact.
Each mode targets a specific musical context. Hi Strings and Lo Strings help adapt processing to the register (and thus harmonic density), Piano focuses on more musical control of transients and spectrum, while Synth facilitates the integration of electronic textures and pads in a modern mix. Result: less time correcting, more time creating.
To give the impression that "the concert hall comes to you," the plug-in includes Space and Doubler layers. They serve to build a wider soundstage, push back or bring forward the instrument, and achieve an enveloping sensation without masking the performance. This is ideal for cinematic strings, pop pianos that need to remain large but controlled, or pads that fill the spectrum without taking up all the space.
The balance between direct signal and effect layers allows you to preserve the authenticity of the recording or sample while adding the necessary thickness, presence, and space. You can stay subtle for an acoustic production or push the processing for a more modern and assertive aesthetic, all while maintaining a coherent and "mixable" result.
