Waves Maserati GRP is a multi-FX plugin designed for processing groups and buses in a digital audio workstation. Where track-by-track processing can make a mix sound too fragmented, GRP intervenes at the right place: it unifies multiple sources played together (backing vocals, drum kit, stacked guitars, string sections, keyboards) to make them sound like a coherent ensemble. It is also very useful on loops and stems to provide a more homogeneous identity, with a touch of brightness and light compression that "holds" the group without stiffening it.
The heart of Maserati GRP is a compression approach designed to stick elements together rather than flatten them. You get a more stable and clearer group in the mix while preserving attack and natural movement. The goal is not to add an obvious effect but to provide that last percentage that transforms stacked tracks into a section that "speaks" with one voice.
GRP offers low, mid, and high band shaping to quickly adjust the color of a bus. It's ideal for taming an overly dominant low end on drums, restoring presence to a guitar group, or adding air to backing vocals without resorting to surgical EQ. The plugin behaves like a results-oriented mixing tool: fast, musical, and designed to focus on essentials.
With its 13 dedicated presets (background vocals, drums, guitars, etc.), Maserati GRP allows you to start immediately from a relevant base and then refine according to your production. Specific settings exist for backing vox, drums, keys, strings, and masters, facilitating a coherent mix when chaining multiple buses.
In addition to group processing, the Master mode allows use on a full mix or stems (for example, a drum or vocal stem). It's a practical solution to unify a submix, give a more "mixed" finish to a stem export, or stabilize balance before mastering, all while maintaining subtle processing.
The PRGM mode is designed for programmed drums: it helps bring breathing space and a more organic feel to patterns, making the group more coherent and pleasant to place in the mix. This is particularly relevant in pop, RnB, hip-hop, electro production, and any style where drums need to be both controlled and lively.
Maserati GRP offers separate modes depending on whether you use it as an insert (directly on a bus) or as a send (via an auxiliary). This flexibility facilitates integration into dense sessions, whether you work with a classic bus architecture or more creative routing.
