Waves Maserati VX1 is a vocal enhancer designed to facilitate vocal mixing: highlighting, spatial placement, adding air and depth, while maintaining musicality suited to modern productions. It is aimed at sound engineers, home studio producers, and beatmakers who want to quickly achieve an expressive voice that fits coherently within the track, whether in pop, R&B, hip-hop, soul, or more acoustic music.
The core of VX1 is based on three "Contour" modes that go beyond simply changing a reverb or delay setting: each Contour combines effects and tonal curves designed for a specific purpose. Contour 1 targets a studio/tight room sound, ideal for a present and natural voice. Contour 2 opens up the space with a wider ambiance and thoughtful pre-delays, particularly suited for slow songs and ballads. Contour 3 is calibrated for fast tracks, with a small room and matching pre-delay to keep diction clear while adding movement.
In Contours 1 and 2, the Compress control helps bring out performance details: attacks, phrase endings, useful breaths, subtle intensity variations. The goal is to enhance emotion without creating an artificial effect and to stabilize the voice so it stays "anchored" in the mix.
VX1 is designed so that delay and reverb interact naturally to achieve a moving depth that supports the groove. The delay subtly evolves depending on the selected Contour, allowing the effect to adapt to tempo and style without starting from scratch each session. The result: a voice that gains fullness without masking articulation.
To finalize placement, each Contour features Bass and Treble controls with custom curves, facilitating quick correction without altering the timbre. On Contour 3, the Air control adds clarity especially useful on vocals in up-tempo contexts, when the production is dense and brightness must remain clean.
The 16 presets serve as efficient starting points for different Contour applications. They allow quick selection of a sonic direction, then adjustment of key controls to fit the take, microphone, and desired placement in the arrangement.
