Waves OneKnob Filter is a filtering plugin designed to sculpt the spectrum in real time with maximum simplicity. It is mainly used to create very clean filter sweeps (filter build-ups and drop-downs) on loops, vocals, instruments, or even an entire track, to add movement, transitions, and dynamics to a production.
In the studio, it allows quick adjustment of a sound's color, softening an arrangement before a drop, or building an energy progression during a break. In live or DJ contexts, automating the main knob produces wah-type effects and natural "club" transitions, reminiscent of certain DJ mixers' feel.
The key strength of OneKnob Filter is its extremely smooth transition feel: you can sweep the cutoff frequency continuously, without any sense of stepping or quantized movement. The result is especially suited to electronic styles, progressive build-ups, and breakdowns where filter fluidity is essential.
The plugin is based on a 12 dB/octave low-pass filter with a silky sound, designed to go from very closed filtering (almost muting the signal) to a wide open setting that passes the entire spectrum. The behavior is immediate, clear, and effective, making it a practical tool for fast work without complex settings.
A dedicated knob allows you to adjust the resonance across 4 levels, from "none" to "extreme." This lets you keep the filtering subtle for arrangement setup or, conversely, accentuate the cutoff frequency for sharper, more performative effects.
