Waves OneKnob Pressure is a compression plugin designed to get straight to the point: control dynamics and add energy to a source without the usual settings (threshold, ratio, attack, release). It is aimed at both home studio users and busy engineers, and is particularly suited for situations where you want to choose a sound by ear quickly: more intelligible vocals, more present acoustic guitar, piano that stands out, denser stereo bus, or violently crushed drums for a deliberate effect.
The principle is simple: turn the knob to adjust compression from subtle to aggressively squashed. This "one-knob" approach avoids back-and-forth between parameters and lets you stay focused on performance, arrangement, and sonic direction.
OneKnob Pressure includes 10 optimized compression presets accessible by turning the knob. The idea is not to build a compressor from scratch but to select a character suited to the source and style: from light parallel-style compression to thicken without choking, up to "hardcore squashing" to densify, crush, and bring out details.
On vocals, the plugin helps even out level differences to improve intelligibility while maintaining a quick and musical approach. On instruments like acoustic guitar or piano, it can add that extra presence and consistency that pushes the track forward in the mix without relying on a complex processing chain.
Compression reacts directly to the input level. The Pad/Unity/Boost button helps you optimize the input according to the source to avoid underfeeding the processing (too timid compression) or pushing it too hard (undesired crushing). Also handy when switching from a soft track to a very energetic one without wasting time.
