Waves Q10 Equalizer is an EQ plugin designed to quickly solve frequency issues while remaining musical. It can be used to remove an annoying resonance on a vocal, tighten the low end of a bass, soften harshness on a guitar, balance a drum bus, or add clarity to a master. Thanks to its 10 parametric bands and various curves, the Q10 adapts to modern production as well as more traditional projects, favoring a "clean" and precise approach.
Its major advantage is allowing scalpel-like work without degrading the source. Whether you are in the recording phase (light cleaning), editing (targeted corrections), or mixing (overall balance and coherence), Q10 becomes a central tool to rigorously control the spectrum while preserving the signal's personality.
The Q10 offers 10 parametric bands, each capable of adopting one of 6 available curves: hipass, lowpass, bell, proportional, high shelf, and low shelf. This versatility allows building an all-purpose EQ: highpass/lowpass filters for cleaning, bells for correcting and sculpting, shelves to add or remove air and weight, and proportional mode for more natural movements depending on the applied gain.
Each band includes essential controls: Q, frequency, and gain, enabling everything from subtle correction to radical treatment. The ability to combine and stack multiple filters opens the door to steeper slopes, very deep notches, or conversely very wide curves, depending on mix needs.
The Proportional-Q mode keeps the Q factor proportional to the gain: the more you boost or cut, the more selective the band becomes. This behavior is particularly useful for "targeting" a problematic area while maintaining a coherent and quick gesture, especially when hunting resonances or densifying a frequency range without bloating the entire spectrum.
Double precision processing enhances the reliability of settings, especially when stacking multiple bands, working with tight corrections, or seeking transparent equalization on complex sources.
For fine image control, you can equalize left and right channels independently or link them to apply identical settings. This approach is practical on stereo takes (pianos, overheads, ambiences): identical correction to preserve coherence, or separate adjustments to compensate for real imbalance between sides.
The Q10 offers a modern interface (adapted to current usage and multitouch) as well as a more compact legacy interface, ideal when you want to save space in your session. The display can show all bands for an overview or switch to Focus view to enlarge the display and concentrate on the controls of a single band. Result: a smooth workflow, equally comfortable for quick corrections or detailed equalization.
When precision is key, you can enter numerical values to exactly set a frequency, gain, or Q. The plugin also includes 50 factory and artist presets to provide effective starting points, whether cleaning a vocal, tightening lows, or brightening a track without harshness.
