Waves SuperTap is a delay plugin designed to enrich a production with echoes inspired by famous multi-head tape delays, while offering precise control suited to current studio demands. It excels on vocals (thickening, slapback, rhythmic repeats), guitars ("spacey" echoes, evocative solos), keyboards and synths (stereo movement, modulated textures), as well as drums (early reflections, short delays, percussive patterns). Thanks to its multiple delay lines, SuperTap allows you to build rhythmic signatures and complex patterns, from simple presence reinforcement to polyrhythms that become a central element of the arrangement.
At the heart of SuperTap are 6 fully functional and independent delay lines. This architecture allows layering multiple delay times, finely controlling the behavior of each "head," and creating cascading responses close to tape echo, but with much greater adjustment freedom. You can thus move from a thick, direct slapback to long, enveloping repeats while maintaining optimal clarity in the mix.
SuperTap offers delays up to 4958 ms, with the possibility to use a tap delay or sync to the host tempo. For rhythmic effects, the tap tempo button multiplied by 6 facilitates the construction of polyrhythms and dynamic bounces, useful in electronic music as well as pop, rock, or cinematic productions. The result: repeats that naturally fit the grid without losing the organic character expected from tape-inspired delay.
Each delay line can be shaped using 6 filter curves, a major asset to avoid energy buildup in the low-midrange and to "push" repeats into the background. Practically, this allows designing darker and more discreet echoes, brighter and present repeats, or more characterful textures depending on the space you want to give them. This approach is ideal for keeping a clean mix while adding depth.
Modulation adds a sense of movement and width, with effects ranging from slight thickening to more pronounced chorusing on repeats. It is an effective solution to bring life to a static source, enlarge a lead part, or create lusher ambiances without multiplying plugins. Combined with filtering, modulation helps build delays that "breathe" and blend into the arrangement.
SuperTap includes advanced feedback options, including self-oscillation for controlled build-ups and expressive analog-style effects. This behavior is particularly useful for transitions, marked phrase endings, or rhythmic effects that evolve progressively. You can thus go from a simple discreet echo to bolder textures while maintaining a musical response suitable for production.
Rotation-based panning is designed to preserve the levels of the right and left channels to maintain a stable stereo image. This stereo field management helps place repeats precisely without unbalancing the signal or losing the mix's foundation. The result: a wide delay when you want it, but always controlled, clean, and compatible with dense arrangements.
