Waves Tune is a pitch correction and pitch editing plugin designed to refine vocal takes with "studio" precision directly in your DAW. It addresses two major production needs: discreetly correcting inaccurate notes to achieve a perfectly in-tune and credible vocal, or conversely embracing a creative effect of fast correction typical of hip hop and EDM.
Beyond vocals, Waves Tune can also be used on monophonic sources within a vocal range (for example a solo guitar line or certain leads) to stabilize pitch, reinforce melodic intent, or create slides and transitions impossible to perform naturally. It is a tool designed both for modern production (pop, rap, electro) and demanding editing (R&B, film music, sung voice-over).
Waves Tune lets you choose the degree of correction: from a discreet formant-corrected adjustment (to preserve timbre and avoid the "artificial voice" effect) to a deliberate "hard" correction with very fast retuning speed to achieve a contemporary sonic signature. You finely adjust the correction speed, the transition time between notes, and the alignment intensity to respect the singer's style and the track's aesthetic.
Editing is done in a graphical display designed for speed: start playback on your DAW timeline, and you can correct on the fly. Notes can be split into segments to isolate an attack, an end of note, or an unstable passage, then merged to smooth a phrase and make it more coherent. Drawing tools (pencil, curve, line) allow precise retouching of the pitch curve, creating clean slides, and applying identical shapes to groups of notes to uniform a chorus or doubles.
To avoid "random" corrections and stay musical, Waves Tune can conform notes to 43 different scales, or to a custom scale. This helps lock the track's key, avoid foreign notes, and save time when editing a dense verse or stacked harmonies.
Creating harmonies becomes accessible: just play notes on the virtual keyboard to find the interval that works, then move the displayed notes to the desired pitch. This approach is ideal for quickly building choirs, enriching a topline, thickening a lead voice, or creating melodic responses, all while perfectly locked to the key.
Vibrato is often what makes a performance alive. Waves Tune lets you preserve natural vibrato, accentuate it to enhance emotion, or reduce it for a straighter, more modern aesthetic. You can even synthesize vibrato with dedicated settings (delay, attack, speed) and multiple waveforms, handy for controlled "warble" effects and more creative vocal textures.
If you want to go beyond correction, assign a MIDI track to Waves Tune: you can then impose a new note sequence on the performance or play these notes via a controller (keyboard, pads) to guide pitch in real time. This feature is useful for testing melodic variations, correcting a problematic note without manually editing each point, or turning a take into an expressive instrument.
Waves Tune integrates into your production environment via common plugin formats and offers ReWire support for increased flexibility depending on compatible hosts. Some transport functions can be controlled from the plugin interface to limit back-and-forth and stay focused on editing.
