Waves UltraPitch is a pitch shifting and harmonization plugin designed to instantly add more breadth, width, and character to a mono recording. It excels in modern vocal production (pop, RnB, rap, electronic), but also adapts perfectly to sound design, dubbing, and spoken content. Whether you're looking for a simple pitch shift to thicken a voice, a realistic choir effect from a single track, or a creative "robot" style transformation, UltraPitch provides a comprehensive palette that is quick to set up and easy to automate in your DAW.
Thanks to the work on the formant, you can modify the perception of the timbre (deeper, more childlike, more metallic, stranger) while maintaining credible articulation. This is a key asset for stacking harmonies without the impression of copy-pasting, and for creating distinct characters from a single voice in a podcast, audio fiction, or audiobook.
UltraPitch combines several approaches: a 3-voice harmony component, another up to 6 voices, and a dedicated pitch shift component. This architecture allows you to go from subtle thickening (doubling, stereo chorusing) to full chord writing, while maintaining a mixing logic: you adjust each voice as if you had multiple separate takes.
Each voice can be independently adjusted in gain, panning, and delay, in addition to pitch and formant. The result: you easily build a wide and stable stereo image, place left/right responses, simulate micro-temporal differences for an "ensemble" effect, or create a short, rhythmic vocal slap without multiplying tracks. This per-voice precision makes UltraPitch as relevant in mixing (precise control) as in creation (quick experimentation).
To define harmonies, you can select notes via a virtual keyboard or dropdown menu, facilitating the construction of intervals coherent with your key. UltraPitch also supports automation: you can evolve certain notes at specific moments, create rises, transitions, or harmonic responses that change between verse and chorus, without reprogramming the entire effect or duplicating the session.
Formant processing is at the heart of the sound: you can link formant correction to pitch (for more natural transpositions) or adjust it independently (for stylized timbres and characters). UltraPitch offers correction profiles adapted to different voice characters and several instrument families, to improve detection and stability on varied monophonic sources. This is ideal for achieving more credible harmonies or, conversely, pushing marked transformations for special effects.
To avoid a static sound, the Animation option adds random delay offsets between voices. This micro-movement brings an organic chorusing sensation, widens the stereo field, and helps "breathe" a stack of harmonies in the mix. On a lead vocal, it allows creating a controlled and musical spread; on spoken word, it can provide a futuristic texture or a unique sonic signature.
The pitch shift covers a range of plus or minus 1 octave with a resolution of 5 cents, convenient for fine adjustments and perfectly calibrated doubling. You can also tune harmonies in equal temperament or other intonations, to explore particular harmonic colors and adapt the result to a specific musical context.
