Waves X-Hum is an audio restoration plugin designed to remove low-end spectrum issues that immediately ruin a recording or mix: 50/60 Hz hum, buzzes, mechanical vibrations, as well as DC offset (direct current component) which can reduce available dynamic range. It is aimed at sound engineers, musicians, podcasters, and broadcast technicians who want to quickly secure a source (voice, bass, DI guitar, synths, field recordings, interviews) and recover clearer low-mids, tighter bass, and a more manageable output level.
X-Hum works with both 50 Hz and 60 Hz powered environments. Its processing core relies on 8 tuned notch filters capable of reducing hum and its harmonics by up to -60 dB. The result: you eliminate buzz caused by ground loops, faulty cables, power supplies, nearby transformers, or unstable connections, while preserving the useful energy of the signal.
For unwanted vibrations and rumbles (mic stand, ventilation, mechanics, handling, stage), X-Hum offers a high-pass filter selectable with a slope of 12 dB/octave or 24 dB/octave. This approach cleans the low end without making the source thin, by precisely adjusting the cutoff according to the instrument or voice.
At sub-audible frequencies, a DC offset can reduce your headroom and complicate dynamics, especially during tight gain staging. X-Hum allows you to adjust the cutoff to remove this direct current component while preserving the bass, facilitating level optimization and signal stability in a processing chain.
Factory presets cover the most common scenarios and speed up troubleshooting during sessions. You can also link filters to adjust multiple parameters simultaneously, or conversely unlink them for surgical intervention. With its zero latency and minimal CPU consumption, X-Hum naturally integrates into mixing, editing, and restoration workflows, including real-time processing.
