Already owner of two digital recorders from different brands, I find in the Tascam DP 24SD a reliable device, easy to use with functions that allow us to quickly implement our musical ideas.

I bought this mixing console at the end of last May and I am surprised by what can be done with it. Before buying it, I wanted to have the mixing and mastering done by a studio. I paid 446 and I see today that it has gone up to 479 (33 more expensive). So, I chose the right time to buy.

Great machine but with a flaw that drives you crazy: at the end of each recording, you have to wait 3 to 5 seconds for the machine to save the track before regaining control. Even if the recording lasted half a second, it's the same... there's a small screen showing the machine is working, and you have to wait. And that's horrible. I had a Boss 1600CDr before, and it didn't do that. I tried to disable anything in the preferences that could slow it down, but to no avail. I bought a high-quality SD card, updated the machine... nothing worked.
It spoils the fun, and sometimes you want to throw the machine out the window. So I found a trick: during each waiting time, I take a deep breath. When you record, it can only be positive, especially for a singer. That's it...
Apart from that, it's great gear, I'm recording an album, and it works great. When you turn it on, it works immediately. I avoided computers that constantly demand updates, sound cards that aren't recognized, this or that... in short, with this portastudio: you turn it on and create. I managed to crash the machine once in 5 years, and yet I use it like crazy. You can switch from recording, to mixing, then mastering in no time, with a very clean and well-produced result, provided the recordings and mixing are done carefully.
8 tracks recordable simultaneously, only one headphone output though, then monitor outputs, USB and the full set that goes well.
The audio depot function allows importing or exporting tracks: super practical!
Very handy knobs: pan, equalizer, effects.
Robust machine (fell out of my car trunk!!)
Nice design
Very good plug and play: you plug in, you play.
Apart from this waiting time flaw, it's a very well-made machine. You can bounce, mix, master, and export it to listen anywhere to test the result.
Punch in/out function
Repeat A/B
In short, everything is thought out.
Do I recommend it? ... Despite this damn flaw... yes, I still think so.
The price is great considering everything you get.
Oh yes, a small flaw too, the wheel to move on the timeline has an "intelligent" feature that's supposed to recognize the speed at which you turn the wheel, and it causes big uncontrollable jumps, but I find it quite poorly done... I preferred something regular like on my Boss.
Equipment you can take everywhere.
