The UAFX Starlight Echo Station follows in the footsteps of delays that have shaped decades of recorded guitars: the 70s tape echo, the American Bucket Brigade from the late 70s/early 80s, and then the more "studio" digital delays with perfectly readable repeats. Here, Universal Audio does not settle for a simple general character: the pedal captures the details that make the difference, such as the preamp of the original machines, the small instabilities, the modulation, and that "alive" feeling that makes you want to play one more phrase.
The Starlight is aimed at the guitarist (and more broadly any instrumentalist) who wants a premium delay capable of covering a wide palette without multiplying pedals. In blues and rock, the tape echo adds depth, thickens leads, and gives a flattering halo to riffs. In pop, indie, and shoegaze, the modulations and stereo create a wide, cinematic movement. In ambient and post-rock, the hi-fi repeats, ping-pong, and smooth transitions allow building clean, readable, and deep pads and rhythmic patterns.
On a pedalboard, it easily replaces a "tape + analog" duo while maintaining immediate usability. In the studio, its studio-quality converters and defined repeats facilitate layering without muddying the mix.
At the heart of the Starlight is a UAFX dual-processor engine capable of driving two distinct stereo instances of delay algorithms. The result: a sense of depth and width rarely achieved on a pedal, with complex textures and a "full" stereo image. The transitions are designed to remain musical: when you change effects, the pedal lets resonances live on, avoiding artificial cuts during performance.
On stage, the Starlight aims for efficiency: Tap Tempo to sync repeats with the drummer, recallable preset and Live/Preset mode to switch settings stress-free. The True or Buffered Bypass adapts the pedal to your chain (long cables, crowded pedalboard, or conversely a minimal signal path), with a silent footswitch. The fully analog dry signal path keeps your attack and dynamics intact, even with generous settings.
Finally, the USB-C port is used for computer updates and the possibility to download additional effects, allowing the pedal to evolve with your setup.
Tape EP-III: a rich tape delay, with immediate musicality and a modeled preamp that adds body and a slight "glue" to the sound. The instability details (wow/flutter) bring an organic dimension, and the New, Used, and Worn tape types allow going from cleaner repeats to more textured echo, perfect for vintage leads and rhythms.
Analog DMM: syrupy repeats, dense modulation, and that typical Bucket Brigade grain that widens the guitar without harshness. The small irregularities linked to the clock and the colored preamp give a very expressive character: ideal for short "slap" delays, sci-fi lines, or repeats that blend into the playing while maintaining a warm presence.
Precision: a hi-fi playback that remains clear in a busy mix, with dynamic modulation inspired by studio textures (chorus/flanger). In stereo, the ping-pong repeats add movement and depth, perfect to modernize a clean tone, make an arpeggio wider, or lay down a very clean rhythm in pop/electro contexts.
