Whether it's the smooth brass section of a classic Hollywood film soundtrack, the velvety richness of a jazz vocal, or the larger-than-life drum sound of a classic rock recording, chances are an RCA Series 44 ribbon microphone was used in the studio when the sound was created. Used for over 80 years in recording and broadcast studios worldwide, the RCA 44 ribbon design is as rich in history as it is in sound and character. This instantly recognizable sound produces thunderous lows due to the strong proximity effect, rich and full mids, and unique highs that cut through hard instruments.

The AEA R44 carries on an iconic legacy of superb ribbon microphones by delivering a rich sound full of character and color. Effective on a wide range of instruments and ensembles, the R44 enhances mids and lows while smoothing highs to produce a multidimensional sound unlike any other microphone in the world. Used on everything from vocalists to full orchestras, the R44 is the ideal choice to capture the tone of any voice or instrument while imparting its legendary ribbon character.

The passive R44 is available in two exteriors: the museum-quality original replica R44C and the cost-effective R44CE. Both microphones have identical sound and are exactly the same internally. The difference between the two lies solely in aesthetics and price. The active A440 is a flexible R44 with a preamp providing an additional 18 dB of output. It is custom painted with the classic RCA transformer housing in earth shadow color.
