I've been eyeing the gear from elektron for a little while now. Back then the octatrack, then they released the digitakt, and finally the samples and the cycles. Wanting to move away from my old vst on pc but hesitating to spend a thousand bucks on an octa that might be starting to age slightly and with which I'm not sure I'll enjoy myself, I decided to take the plunge and ordered a samples. I'm not disappointed, obviously it's more limited than its big brothers but the possibilities are still quite huge. I was looking for a machine to play my own samples and manipulate them in every way and I have to say the beast is quite capable, all in a very intuitive way. It has become my evening ritual to turn it on when I'm in bed, and just jam with it, and I have to admit the more you know it inside out the more I'm surprised by the results. I found myself recording quite a few patterns even though I started a little session with no idea in mind nor even knowing which sample I was going to use. The limits (only 6 tracks, 1 lfo, samples not too long) don't matter, you can slightly bypass them. For this price, apart from the sp 404 I don't see which competitor offers such a nice machine. The build is decent, I wonder how the knobs will hold up over time, but it's clearly a very good introduction to the world of hardware, which also has its place in a fat well-equipped home studio as well as in a minimalist setup. The only thing is its look which is not great, in white like that, I would have preferred black. It looks a bit like a pillbox...

Requires a bit of practice but very beautiful object, wide sound palette and above all the possibility to modify it in depth.

Super drum machine, very pleasant to use, it's very satisfying to be able to turn knobs to throw effects :D The Model:Samples allows you to quickly lay down ideas, leave them as sketches or push them to have a very solid project. The parameters and sample locks as well as the trig conditions are super practical and allow you to bypass the 6-track limit to compose quite complete tracks. + the fact of being able to integrate your own sounds into a 1GB memory... it's huge! Only downside, the lack of polyphony: on the same track, you can't play several notes at the same time on the same trig (there is however a little trick via the nudge). Apart from that, GO! Model:Cycles also exists!

Excellent sampler. Easy to use, but you still need to watch some tutorials first and leaf through the manual (in English) to really be able to use it properly. Once mastered, it offers many possibilities and a wide range of action with its 6 tracks. The trig conditions allow building interesting sequences. Triggering several samples (24 max I believe) different per track greatly expands the possibilities. I like all the effects present on the front panel. Some are more powerful than others but I find a use for all of them. The LFO is really good but I can't associate it with all the effects, I mainly use it with PAN and CUTOFF. There have been some criticisms about this LFO because it is not applicable to all tracks but on each track individually. However, there is a "swing all" function even if it doesn't replace this LFO... Regarding overall memory (1GB) it's more than enough for me. However, the 64 MB of RAM is almost full, it's a bit tight; I think double would have been more comfortable but it's not really blocking for me for now. Sample transfer is easy, but it would have been nice to be able to record directly from an external source and edit the recorded samples. Aesthetically, I like it, it's a bit different from what you usually see. This is the second Elektron I own (I had an Octatrack) and in terms of value for money, it's really unbeatable. In use, I noticed two bugs: first, on a 3-minute sample when switching to a shorter sample, error messages appear (memory full) and other errors, and then my sample list refreshes. Nothing blocking but I think it's not designed to handle long samples (+2 or 3 minutes). On a track that is playing and being edited at the same time (grid): you have to press several times to activate or deactivate a trigger (this is not blocking either). MIDI parameters are very complete and offer a lot of possibilities. Overall, I am very happy with this machine and spend a lot of time on it!

Bar/groove box with multiple facets. Very good value for money considering its enormous potential.

Excellent product, very intuitive and addictive. I've only been using it for a few days and I can't put it down.
