Description

The chekeré is a percussion instrument notably used in Mandingo music from West Africa, as well as in Cuba and Brazil. We also note that it is written "Shekere", "Sekere" (in English) or "xequerê" (in Brazil) and is also called "Djabara". It is most often made from a variety of squash, the "calabash". This is dried and worked and then a mesh (a kind of net) with seeds or pearls is attached to it. Of dimensions and of different forms (with or without handle), It is played by shaking it, striking it with the hand, by making it turn, by throwing it and recovering it in rhythm.

- made in Africa.
