Bitwig Studio is a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) designed for composition, production, and live performance. This upgrade is aimed at Bitwig 8-Track users who want access to a more current and versatile environment, capable of quickly chaining the key stages of a project: idea creation, arrangement, sound design, recording, editing, mixing, and stage preparation.
Its approach is particularly suited to electronic music, beatmaking, pop/urban, sound design, and hybrid setups combining virtual instruments, MIDI controllers, and, depending on your interface, MIDI- or CV-controlled hardware.
Bitwig Studio combines a clip launcher for improvising and building variations, and an arranger for structuring a track linearly. The mixer, dynamic inspector, and clip automation facilitate precise adjustments without breaking the flow, whether you are in the writing or finalizing phase.
Thanks to hybrid tracks, you can naturally switch between audio and MIDI as needed. Operators extend playback possibilities and offer practical options to transform and modify clips and events, enabling quick exploration of rhythmic and melodic variations without multiplying manipulations.
The software supports an unlimited number of audio, MIDI, and effect tracks, as well as an unlimited number of VST and CLAP plug-ins with sidechain support. The sandbox mode for plug-ins helps secure sessions by isolating unstable behaviors, a real plus when using many third-party instruments and effects.
For stage, collaboration, or multi-machine setups, Bitwig offers flexible sync options: Ableton Link, MIDI clock, timecode, and the ability to manage analog clock signals. With appropriate audio/MIDI hardware, you can also consider control voltage output and integration of CV-controlled instruments, as well as MIDI-controlled hardware instruments and effects.
