An artisanal and eco-responsible process. From the planting of the reeds to the flow-pack packaging that protects the reeds from humidity variations, Vandoren controls all stages of production of its famous cane reeds. Hand-cut, the canes are carried on men's backs at the edge of the reed bed. They are then stripped, sun-dried, dried, sawn, bent, tabled, beveled, ... No fewer than fifteen distinct production steps produce a considerable volume of reed waste which is reused as fertilizer for the reed beds or as fuel to heat the factory. Music serving ecology!

These reeds are suitable for all music styles. Their main acoustic qualities are an excellent response in all registers, allowing even the pianissimo attack of high notes and the flexibility allowing the execution of large legato or staccato intervals. Vandoren traditional reeds combine the thinnest tip with the thickest core, thus allowing impeccable articulation with a full and dark sound. The design of these reeds allows for an extremely pure sound thanks to the combination of two factors: a very thin tip of the reed (where the vibration zone is maximal), a strong backbone (more wood in the area gradually leading to the heel). These reeds are recognizable by a horizontal line that delimits the scraping area of the bark.
