- Vintage-modern Playability: compound radius 7.25"-9.5" (184-241 mm) and Medium Vintage frets for precise playing without losing the vintage feel.
- Light Ash, Snappy Sustain: selected 2-piece body, Tele bridge with brass saddles for attack, twang, and resonance.
At the Origins of the "Blackguard" Myth
Inspired by the very first Esquire/Nocaster models from 1950, this Custom Shop version reproduces the recipe that shaped the sound of country, blues, and early rock. Thin nitrocellulose lacquer, lightweight ash, and vintage hardware compose a collectible instrument designed primarily for stage and studio use.
For Whom and Which Styles?
Designed for
intermediate to expert guitarists, it will appeal to fans of
country, blues, roots rock, rockabilly, and twangy pick textures. Thanks to the Blend control and two pickups, it also covers more modern styles where dynamics and precision are key.
The Sound
The
Custom Shop '50/'51 Blackguard single-coil pickups deliver a snappy attack, bright highs, and gritty mids. The
'51 Modified Nocaster wiring offers three essential voicings, while the Blend potentiometer allows fine adjustment of the balance between pickups. The Tele bridge with brass saddles adds brightness and sustain, while the ash body and very thin nitro finish enhance resonance and responsiveness to playing nuances.
Recommended Compatible Accessories
Prefer
nickel strings .010-.046 (Fender 250 type) to maintain original tension and balance. A
"nitro-safe" wall or stand mount prevents any reaction with the nitrocellulose finish. For standing play, a
2"-2.5" leather strap provides comfort and stability. An
adjustable capo compatible with a vintage 7.25"-9.5" radius will ensure optimal intonation across the fretboard.
